Episode 14 | The Marrying Kind

Summary (spoilers after):

When Stewie receives a Ukrainian mail-order wife, he experiences a taste of family life. Meanwhile, Peter and Chris get dependent on the complimentary breakfast buffets at hotels. They had to travel to various hotels as a result to gorge on the breakfast fare.

Our Opinion

Stewie appears to be in hot water once more this week. He has already dealt with plastic surgery and Terminators; now he must deal with being a home husband. Was there anything Stewie wasn’t able to do as a kid?

The recognizable theme music from The Muppet Show was sung by Peter and his buddies to open the show. It’s true that the song is catchy to sing along to, especially for those who grew up watching the Muppets. Then, the episode kind of went downhill. The two stories included Stewie portraying a spouse and Peter and Chris eating breakfast buffets. Despite the entire scenario being uninteresting, the former had a few passable comedic moments. When Stewie acquired the Ukrainian bride, the latter had set up an intriguing idea, but it was unable to keep the audience’s attention for the entire 30-minute episode.

Stewie’s experience as a husband was portrayed in the part with the Ukrainian wife. He even performed his own independent vomit cleanup duties at an Enterprise car rental location. Many thanks, Levi. This episode’s narrative led me to believe that Stewie would be taught about the obligations of adulthood and marriage at a very young age. Of course, given that it is Family Guy, the plot serves more as a pretext to introduce some amusing humor that didn’t quite land. Given their disparate ages, the scene in which the bride wants to have sex with Stewie seemed more awkward than hilarious.

Stewie’s discovery that Brian was having an affair with the bride did make the episode more engaging. But they found a quick solution by devising a double spouse scheme. While Stewie manages the other aspects of the marriage, Brian gets the sexual component. The marriage between Stewie and the bride was afterwards ended when the bride left. In summary, it was a mediocre end to Stewie’s brief domestic life.

The portion about the hotel breakfast buffet is what I anticipated. In essence, Peter and Chris are eating breakfast from various hotels after learning about the buffet while staying at a hotel in New Orleans. They keep eating until Chris is apprehended by security and taken to jail. I’m taking it positively because it concluded with Chris and Peter receiving a complimentary breakfast in prison as Chris pretended to be a police officer. There isn’t much noteworthy about this part outside the Inception visual joke and the Alpha-Bits letters ordering Peter to kill his family. The fact that Peter and Chris are once again getting into trouble should please viewers of this kind of content.

Regarding its humor and plot, this was another typical episode of the show’s 19th season. I laughed out loud a few times, especially at the jokes about the motel breakfast situation. Sadly, they weren’t sufficient to prevent this average marriage from gradually disintegrating.
